... Another Restaurant Disappointment

June 2, 2009

Pier 57, 7376 Oswego Road, Liverpool, NY 13090

Dear Mr. Bill Ennis,

For the past four years we had been visiting your restaurant at least once a weekend and sometimes twice, when we stay in Syracuse for the Gun Show at the Fair Grounds held during April and September.  We’ve always had great meals except when we were there this past April.

Over the several times we dined in your restaurant, my husband David talked with you about his desire to open a restaurant and you talked back and forth about what makes customers happy and what turns them off.

On April 17th, a Friday, I saw a special on your board as we entered; Seafood Provencale with crab meat, scallops, shrimp and fresh clams.  When it arrived I knew after tasting a few bites that it was not real crab meat.  It took us some time to summon our waiter to ask if he knew whether the crab meat was real or imitation and he could only tell us what it said on your specials sign.  By the time we were able to speak with you and get a definitive answer, my husband was three quarters finished with his meal and I was very unhappy with mine.  Although you offered to replace my meal, it was a little too late for that.  When my husband went to pay the bill and mentioned again that it was my first disappointing meal there, you committed the ultimate sin in our book and told him “Everyone loves it!”  To me that states that there is something wrong with me and my taste buds.

If it had stated on your specials board that the crab meat was imitation I never would have ordered that dish.  What if I was allergic to imitation crab and went into anaphylactic shock?

I assume our business doesn’t matter to you because we are only in the area twice a year but unhappy customers are certainly not good advertising.

There are hundreds of dealers at the Syracuse show, all looking for good restaurants for Friday and Saturday nights.  We used to recommend your Pier 57 without a worry about how the meals would be.  As a matter of fact, our daughter and her family are out in Syracuse every summer for basketball tournaments and have also eaten there bringing 20 to 30 people with them; I know they won’t be there this year.  My theory is, when something is good I let people know about it and I do the same when I’m disappointed.  We travel a lot, stay in many hotels and motels and eat in many restaurants.

This has bothered me for over a month now and I had to let you know how disappointed I am about how the situation was treated.  A free dessert offered is not quite the same as a fine meal missed and time wasted, never to be recovered.

Disappointed,  Cathy Petronis

New Revived Gun Show ~ Utica Auditorium ~ Revived after 18 Years

April 4, 5, 2009

Our first two shows went very well and now on to our next event, same price schedule for tables in August.  Our first show in April had about 175 tables on the floor that quality dealers covered with great guns. A bit over 2000 people came in plus members.  A little scary on opening Saturday AM because of an insurance rider snafu but all was worked out and a crowd of around 500 rushed in at 9:45. The next show in August was about the same but a little light on the crowd because of the beautiful weather after all the rain. We are also seeking to expand April into a Sportsman Show on the upper gallery.  Booth space for around $175.00 ... guides, clubs, boats, outdoor equipment, etc. ..call 518-664-9743.

~ Last Great Winter Show

The March 2008 Show was absolutely fantastic, the public were standing in the rain till we managed to open a second door.  Was strong thru at least 2pm. The weather was great, not like last year when we had  another sell-out but  the snow hit us hard.  We only lost about 15 tables from the dealers who couldn't brave the weather or leave early.  The public was down to just over 1000 on Saturday but Sunday sure made up for it. We were down about 25% overall, not bad and we held our own again as the only place to be in the northeast in March!  What a difference a year makes.

August 2, 3, 2008 ~ Was also a Great Summer Show but our next Summer Arms Fair will be on the last weekend in August and the race track will be in full run. 2008 Show was a bit light in public but sales were still brisk.

We had our late fall Saratoga Arms Fair on October 31, November 1 and 2, 2008 and did a Special Turkey Dinner for members and exhibitors for the October Show on Friday Evening  (Free, naturally) was delicious and different.  Don't expect that all the time, boys! Goulash for March went well, though it was meatballs & ziti for August.  We had some special things for our 25th Anniversary Show in September for the exhibitors in attendance, the folks who really make the Arms Fair work and I'm sure the dealers who won the prizes from a $300.00 Pachislo Machine to $100.00 in cash or $20.00 in gas cash to free tables went home happy with money from a buying public.  One of my best personal sales shows.

October *31, November 1, 2, 2008 ~ Was Our Late Fall Arms Fair ~

Again we promoted our Saratoga Springs Arms Fair and Collector Show which we started over 25 years ago and actually opened the City Center with as a gala Antiques Show then a month later with our Gun Show.  About 250 tables are available.  Again, same time period in 2009.

New and old exhibitors will be back for our Next Arms Fair in Saratoga Springs this year ...we hope you will be there too. ... March 20, 21, 22, 2009

Other Shows we are going to this year ...

We displayed at the Allentown, PA Forks of the Delaware Historical Arms Show this past weekend, July 12, 13, 2008. The show was very slow for sales but saw a lot of folks we hadn't seen in years and did promote our upcoming events.  Took a little trip to the Lancaster area for a couple of days which was very nice.

We displayed at the Clayton Thousand Islands, NY Show this August 16 & 17, 2008. The show had a few more dealers than last year but the crowd was off significantly, sales were slow.  I bought a few things.  I wish the Rotary Club would either sell me the show or allow NEACA to run it.  I think they may be getting short of help to make it as successful as it once was.  A lot of work in these things that you don't always see but nevertheless has to get done.

We also displayed in Easton, MD at their Gun Show this November 15, 16, 2008

Our last major events were our Arms Fair in Saratoga Springs, NY at the Saratoga City Center on Broadway, on March 14, 15, 16 and August 1, 2, 3, plus our first Utica Arms Fair at the Utica Auditorium on April 4, 5, 6, 2008.  See our report of the March & August Arms Fairs on our "Gun Show" page.  At Saratoga we have room for 250 tables of collector guns, fine militaria and related material, also excellent displays are always presented.  We had our Saratoga Arms Fair again at Saratoga Springs, NY on December 21, 22, 23, 2007. Our Christmas Dinner and Auction was Saturday, Dec. 22nd at 7:00PM in the Ballroom at The Hotel in Saratoga which adjoins the City Center.  Tickets were $35.00 each for dinner and door prizes, drinks at 6:00PM with Auction at 8PM.  All are welcome at our future dinners.  See our partial Auction Listing.  As for dealers we were SOLD OUT OF ALL eight foot TABLES for the past nine out of eleven shows.

US Congressman John E. Sweeney

United States Congressman John Sweeney, Republican, stopped in to say hello to Dave and Cathy Petronis at this past August NEACA Arms Fair at the Saratoga Springs City Center.  He is an avid Second Amendment Rights supporter and John deserves the support in this coming November election from all New York State voters and gun owners.  Naturally our grand-kids, Kristin and Megan Bazar of Mechanicville were not going to be left out of the photos.  If my girls and your own future family off-spring are going to be able to hunt and have a place to shoot we need to support today's pro-gun candidates and elected officials. John represents the 20th NY Congressman John Sweeney at Saratoga Arms Fair 2006 with Kristin and Megan Bazar .JPG (91956 bytes) Congressional District and you can show your support by calling his office at 518-371-8839 and say "Thank You" for his gun rights stance.  And make sure you REGISTER and VOTE this November 7th.

Also showing his support for our shows by showing up and visiting with the exhibitors and NEACA members at our August 4 & 5 Arms Fair was James Tedisco, who represents the 110th NY State Assembly District. As some of you may recall he also visited our show in Schenectady last July.  Jim has a pretty important job as the Assembly Minority Leader in the NY State Legislature and we would like to keep him there after he wins re-election this November.  A "Thank You" for his gun rights support can be phoned in to 518-455-5811.  Cathy and I wish to thank both these men for their continued support of our own right to Keep and Bear Arms and to Buy and Sell them at our Arms Fairs.  If the anti-gun democrat candidates seeking election from the governor on down actually get into power in Albany we may very well see the demise or complete elimination of public Gun Shows in this State.  YOU can make a difference by contributing a few dollars to the campaign of your choice and your most important VOTE this November 7th.  And if you find you may be away simply fill out an absentee ballot.  If any of you need voter assistance you can call your local Republican Committee or in Saratoga County call 518-584-7900 or go to the Saratoga County GOP website at http://www.gopsaratoga.org/index.asp .

By the way, "Who is John Faso?" you ask.  Well, I hope he is going to be your next Republican Governor.  Click on Fred Dickers column in the NY Post .... http://www.johnfaso2006.com/updates/031706.html to find out a little about New York politics.  It ain't pretty.     Dave Petronis

Past Show ~ Herkimer, NY Gun Show

 May *18, 19, 20, 2007

Michael E. Plisek VFW Post #4915, 131 Mohawk, St.

We will return to one of my favorite little shows in the Mohawk town of Herkimer, near Utica.  Directions are NYS Thruway I-90, to Exit 30, then Route 5 east to Herkimer, corner of Mohawk St. and Dewey Ave., near Burger King.  Only about 50 eight foot tables fit into their room but a lot of good stuff comes in and it is a good hunting and collecting area.  The Remington factory in Ilion is only a mile or two up Rt. 5 as well as their museum.  The old Utica Savage Arms Company was also near by as well as several Fishing Company factories and Knife factories. This has been quite an historic area even since the French and Indian War and you never know what can turn up at this show.

New Member Letter ~ May 2006 with Monticello Report

First Monticello Raceway Arms Monticello Arms Fair May 06 3 .JPG (92801 bytes)Fair is Now Monticello Arms Fair May 06 1 .JPG (93197 bytes)History.

Along the way our New Eastcoast Arms Collectors Associates turned 150 barren wooden tables into a great display of firearms and knives and collectable militaria.  All of our members and exhibitors who decided to take a chance on this, our new venture should be proud of their fine efforts in changing an empty room on Thursday into what could become THE GUN SHOW in the Tri-StateMonticello Arms Fair May 06 8 .JPG (95641 bytes)Monticello Arms Fair May 06 6 .JPG (98169 bytes) area.  Because of your efforts, NEACA will schedule more of these shows in Monticello, New York.

By Friday evening this past May 19, 2006 the Arms Fair began to take form.  Covers and racks held more collectable, investment grade or modern shooting firearms than most other area shows seldom see.  With the fine restaurants on premises there was no need for tables full of beef jerky here.  One deli sandwich for lunch was enough for two days of food.  Quality abounded in this third story show as well as in the Lounge, the Buffet and the Gaming Room on the main floor below.

Monticello Arms Fair May 06 7 .JPG (117831 bytes)Monticello Arms Fair May 06 9 .JPG (116350 bytes)Monticello Arms Fair May 06 10 .JPG (128532 bytes)The folks who decided to join our exhibitors on Saturday and Sunday to simply peruse the displays or to buy from or sell to our dealers were surely not disappointed in their quest. Though the public was light for this first show the people who came saw what a Gun Show was supposed to be, what we call an Arms Fair.  An event that displays martial and civilian arms and accessories from around the world, where someone can view and buy with confidence from reputable and responsible exhibitors.  This first in what I hope will be a series of quality Monticello Arms Fairs was a great step in the development in a fine continuing process.

And the first several hundred attendees and all of ourMonticello Safari Bobblehead 3 .JPG (51648 bytes) exhibitors also left with the Monticello Raceway Safari Bobblehead doll as a memento of the First Commemorative Monticello Arms Fair and our sincere appreciation of your visit.  Thank you all and thanks to the fine staff at Monticello Raceway.

(Formally Monticello Race Track)

May 20 and 21, 2006

The Event Director of Mighty M Gaming contacted us to promote a Gun Show at their facility.  In time, what could develop into a 500 table or more Super Show.  However, at this stage we have room for about 250 to 300 8 foot tables on their third floor.  Elevators naturally, are available but the loading and unloading could present a bottleneck if all dealers have to come at the same time. Doesn't usually happen.  There are quality and inexpensive motels in the immediate area and restaurants and bar on premises. Plenty of free parking with valet parking to the front door for $2.00.  They hope to build a convention center within two years and our show will move into it.  For the early supporters they will have first choice of tables.  I have some very good firearms dealers who will support this first show, I need the support of fifty to make a good nucleus of exhibitors.  Tables will be $60. for Neaca Members and $70. for non-members.  Suggest you all join.  Plus, all members get into all our shows FREE. I suggest the public joins too.  You have till the end of February to commit to your tables with a one table deposit.  No commitment, no show.  For advertising I need to make it all happen by March 1st.  Will you help me?  David Petronis

Thanks for the incoming input.

I'll let you know soon.

Last Show ~ Plattsburgh, NY Gun Show

Was held on April 30, May 1 , 2005

Knights of Columbus Bldg., 106 Boynton Ave.

We re-scheduled a return show to Plattsburgh, NY at the Knights of Columbus Building on Boynton Avenue.  It is off Exit 38 of the New York Adirondack Northway (Rt. I-87), right at light, and a short distance south.  We had room for about 60 eight foot tables and all were full last year.  The last show was very successful and we notified the Club that we will return with another show. Flyers were sent to members and exhibitors in our January letter.  This past show was also fine.

Past Show ~ ANTIQUE ARMS FAIR

Saratoga Springs, New York

Saratoga City Center, 522 Broadway (Rt. 9)

June *17, 18, 19, 2005 (Friday for Members)

(Next 2006 Date June 16, 17, 18)

We are scheduling this new ANTIQUE ARMS FAIR on Fathers Day week end so not to conflict with other shows.  We have had sell-outs of our 250 eight foot tables for our regular Saratoga Arms Fairs for seven in a row.  This show, however, is to have restrictions to Antique Firearms (that is normally referred to as pre-1898 manufacture), but will allow curios and relics, parts for same and Fine Investment Grade Firearms, also Vintage, Quality Militaria (Pre-1946), and some Adirondack and Antique Sporting Collectables. $1000.00 in display prize money will be awarded.

Saratoga is a unique area.  One of the ten most decisive battles in world  history was fought here on Bemis Heights.  The French and Indian Wars were staged throughout the area.  Henry Hudson explored to just south of here and the Knickerbockers settled these fertile valleys over three hundred years ago along with great numbers of  Continental Patriots.  The County is Republican and Conservative today and one of the most affluent and wealthy in New York State.  Parts of it look like Kentucky with the large horse farms and old towns and villages still have the flavor of 1800's architecture.  Open space still survives but new housing is booming.  Our taxes are still low because our economy is still growing.  This is all nestled around one of the top ten tourist locations in the US, Saratoga Springs.  And here is where we host our Arms Fairs.  We would like you to join us for our first ANTIQUE ARMS FAIR.

Our Saratoga Springs Arms Fair on Halloween weekend October 30 & 31, 2004 was sold out.  We already have 167 tables sold for our next show in March, our 58th, and many more promised where applications are being sent in from phone conversations.  It looks like another early sell-out, sixth in a row.  We are very pleased indeed.  Thank you.

Our 56th Saratoga Springs Arms Fair was the first weekend  of August and we were sold out for the fourth show in a row.  See our August Show Report.  In 2005 our August date has been moved to the end of the month on the 27th and 28th due to renovation work at the City Center.  Over 3000 dealers, members and public are expected to attend these weekend Arms Fairs.  Members of NEACA also get in free and also get free entry on Friday evening.  See our last show report of the fantastic March show.  View some of our exhibitors (scroll down) from past shows.

Our March 19, 20 & 21 Arms Fair was just concluded and was a superb event!  Our show was again at the Saratoga City Center at 522 Broadway, which is Rt. 9, north end of the city.  Directions are easy, simply take Exit 15 off the NYS Northway, Rt. 87.  Go west on Rt. 50 and look for Prime Hotel which adjoins the City Center at Rt. 9, on left side of highway.  This is always a great show with quality exhibitors and buying public.  Public Hours are Saturday between 9AM and 5PM and Sunday 9AM till 3PM.  Our 250 8ft. tables are again on the way to being SOLD OUT as usual.  Apply early.  (Call for possible cancellations at late date.)

Our Saratoga Arms Fair on August 2 & 3 was Great!  The Saratoga crowd did not disappoint the exhibitors that were present, as usual.  There was a nice steady flow of members and public filing past the nearly full show.  This again has proved to be the best summer show in the northeast.  And, the streets of the city were absolutely mobbed.  Saratoga Springs, New York is probably close to being the best overall American City in the summer. The thoroughbred racing season and the ambiance of the city lend a very busy atmosphere to the entire area.  No wonder they all say "Saratoga is the summer place to be!"  With our Arms Fairs it has become the best place to be in March and November too.

A lot of great things came into the show, also.  I saw a wonderful condition 21" barrel Volcanic Rifle in .41 caliber with FACTORY ENGRAVING being shopped around by a family owner and eventually purchased for a fairly hefty sum by one of our exhibitors.  A Smith & Wesson New Model in .44 Russian in near MINT condition was offered, it was not bought but I do have the owner in negotiation.  A seventeenth century Spanish epee' in great condition was identified and is now owned by me, c1650.  My Winchester 1897 Bullet Board brought an offer of $10,000 plus but I still own it.  And many, many more fine guns, a few rare traps, lots of knives and swords and scores of hunting firearms were carried in by the public. Normally, 200 or more guns come in.

Some of the finest shotguns were shown by Boyd Corliss, Tony Galazan's representative of his Conn. Shotgun Mfg. Co. as well as Ed and Sandy Ulrich with their Winchester Model 21's plus some other very fine exhibitors. There were plenty of Antique Arms displayed by Paul and Sally Weisberg, Bob Planke, Ed Caffarella, Norm Gelinas, Stuart English, myself and others.  Larry Higgins brought some great investment quality guns and knives as did Bob Rohrig and Tom Eiben.  Speaking of knives Art Green has one of the largest selection of collectable knives in the northeast and he has been with us from the beginning.  Bob Loden had some fantastic Adirondack and Sporting antiques and collectables and Bob Stewart and Andy Berkowitz brought some fine vintage Militaria Collectables.

Local dealers Ken Delano, David Dittman, Jack Chamberlaine, Bill Dwyer, Wes Hurd and others all brought fine hunting guns.  Parts dealers Roland Frasier, Don Valenta and Pete Donato were on hand for all needs in that department.  Allen Lederhouse, Bill Hart and Dick Beauchamp covered the black powder gun market and Roger & Alice Montgomery along with Mike Petrozello and others did the antique and collector reference book category well.  And there were many other exhibitors from ammo dealers to artists to gunsmiths and I even brought a table of Antique Trains and Victorian Dolls just to keep our lady buyers happy. As always, ammo dealers Ed Bartholf and Steve Svitek were present and counting their many sales.

Fine educational displays are always presented at our shows.  Dick Murtha has a great display of antique bear traps, Bob Sawyer displayed English flintlock double shotguns and vintage sporting prints, Chet Smith has a great collection of New York State Conservation Buttons and Licenses, C. Don Carpenter displayed Stevens Rifles and Drillings and Doug Foglio showed off his Savage Model 99 collection while Don Lessard treated us to his African Rifles and artifacts.

It was a fine show and our next Arms Fair at the excellent Saratoga Springs City Center will be on Halloween Weekend in October.  We expect a full show of 250 eight foot tables.  As an exhibitor you should respond well before those dates and as an attendee you should mark your calendar for what again will be the place to be, Saratoga. You can always find our current show information on the web at www.Neaca.com or by calling David Petronis at 518-664-9743.

New Eastcoast Arms Collectors Associates, NEACA, Inc. will again host their popular Saratoga Springs Gun and Militaria Show this August 27  & 28.  This is their 60th Gun Show, referred to as an Arms Fair, held at the Saratoga Springs City Center.  NEACA produced the first City Center Trade Show and has been there for over twenty years.

Collectors and dealers of antique, classic and investment grade firearms from all over the northeast, gather here in Saratoga to buy, sell and trade their wares several times a year.  There are always interesting and historical exhibits of Colt and Winchester firearms as well as rare pieces of Americana, military collectibles, quality reference books, Civil War swords and artifacts, thousands of guns, knives and accessories.  It will be a stroll through history while perusing the exhibits of 250 tables.  Many other sporting and Adirondack antiques and unusual items often appear at these shows.

Interesting portions of New Eastcoast Arms Collectors events are displays presented throughout the show.  The March show includes a display entitled: NY State Hunting Badges & Licenses by Chet Smith, Stevens Single Shot Rifles by C. Don Carpenter, Vintage Fishing Gear, by Bob Janiga, Colt 45 Autos by Jim McCormick plus others.

NEACA always accommodates organizations for display space such as local Fish & Game Clubs, Friends of the NRA, National Guard and the Glens Falls Chapter of Trout Unlimited.  Persons wishing information about local hunting, fishing and shooting sports can find it through these clubs.  One can also join the NRA while at the show, perhaps the best bet to protect 2nd Amendment rights and best bet in Saratoga this year!

In keeping with the flavor of Saratoga, this show features some of the finest collector and investment arms dealers in the northeast.  The list includes exhibitors from Maine to Pennsylvania, the oldest continual operating NYS pistol dealer from Schenectady and some of the more prominent dealers in fine firearms and sporting collectibles will be on hand for free appraisals.  In attendance will be exhibitors displaying inventories of antique pistols, long arms, swords and accoutrements, Revolutionary War and Civil War artifacts.  Also, some of the largest gun parts dealers in the northeast and all the quality, local dealers from New York and New England. This will again be one of the finest shows for firearms, militaria and sporting collectibles, which are still the hottest and most rewarding collector fields in the United States and fast becoming, more so, internationally.  A show not to be missed.

Current NEACA members are admitted for early viewing and free refreshments on Friday evening at 6:30 PM.  New memberships are available at the door for an annual fee of $30.  This includes free admission, with no waiting in line, to all NEACA Shows, for twelve full months.  Renewals are $25 per year.  The show is open to members one-half hour early on Saturday and Sunday.

The doors will open to the general public to buy, sell or trade on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  General admission is $7.00 daily ($6.00 for Senior citizens over 60) and children under 13 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.  The collectors and dealers are always looking for items to purchase from the public.  Before visiting the show, check the attic trunk for old military uniforms or war souvenirs, the back closet for Grandpa’s old firearm or the garage for pack baskets, duck decoys, old animal traps or vintage fishing gear and bring it along to the show.  Many of the exhibitors will be happy to perhaps purchase items, give an estimate of value, or if needed, written appraisals.

Next Saratoga Springs Arms Fair: October 21, 22 & 23, 2005

06/15/2005 Posting ... Martians are Coming .....

Our Saratoga Springs, New York Arms Fair has become so popular that they come from all across the nation to be here.  But recently we've found that our door prize coupons have showed us that we have visitors from many other nations also coming to view the fine displays of antique and collector and investment firearms and vintage militaria.  But now, the vast network of Scientists who work for us in trying to discover new people to attract have made an astounding discovery.  It seems that the planet Mars will be hovering at its closest point to earth in over 60,000 years on the dates of our Show this August 26, 27 and 28.  And whatever inhabitants of the Red Planet are there are obviously wanting to get a better look at our Saratoga Arms Fair and of what all the fuss is about.  We believe that we are the first Gun Show Promoters to be attracting such a response from interstellar visitors.  NEACA, First in Performance ... Again!  Read their report:

The Red Planet is about to be spectacular! This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history.  The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.   Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the Last 5,000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years before it happens again.

The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles of Earth and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky.  It will attain a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide. At a modest 75-power magnification.  Obviously this will also afford a fantastic view for any Martians of the great amount of activity around the Saratoga Arms Fair at the City Center in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye.  Mars will be easy to spot.  At the beginning of August it will rise in the east at 10p.m. and reach its azimuth at about 3 a.m.

By the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30a.m.  That's pretty convenient to see something that no human being has seen in recorded history..  So, mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see Mars grow
progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month.  Finally reaching its' intended assent over Saratoga Springs on the 27th.  Dave Petronis, President of NEACA Show Promotions is feverishly trying to figure out how to create some sort of inter planetary ticket booth to take full advantage of this First in History visit from Martians.

Thank You Scientists and Astronomers Alike.  We couldn't do it without you.  See More about this Once in a Lifetime Happening with photos on Dave's World Page.
