New York: Two
Anti-Gun Bills
to be Heard in
Assembly and
Senate
Committees Next
Week
On Monday, April
11, the New York
Assembly
Committee on
Codes will
consider
legislation
imposing a
relatively new
gun control
scheme called
micro-stamping.
Assembly Bill
1157,
sponsored by
Assemblywoman
Michelle Schimel
(D-16), requires
semi-automatic
pistols
manufactured or
delivered to any
licensed dealer
in the state to
be capable of
micro-stamping
ammunition.
Micro-stamping
is an unproven
technology that
is easily
defeated with
common household
tools and the
replacement of a
few small parts.
If passed, the
availability of
semi-automatic
handguns in New
York will be in
serious doubt,
as manufacturers
simply may
choose not to
build or sell
firearms for
purchase in the
state. Of
course, that is
the ultimate
goal of this
legislation.
Make no mistake,
this is a gun
ban and it must
be stopped.
Please contact
members of the
Assembly
Committee on
Codes and urge
them to oppose
A1157.
Contact
information for
this committee
can be found
here.
On Tuesday,
April 12,
Senate Bill
1003A is
scheduled to be
heard by the
state Senate
Committee on
Codes. S1003A,
sponsored by
state Senator
José Peralta
(D-13), would
require the
judge in a
criminal
proceeding or in
a family court
proceeding, upon
issuance of an
order of
protection, to
inquire as to
the ownership of
a firearm by the
defendant or
respondent.
Please contact
members of the
Senate Committee
on Codes and
urge them to
oppose S1003A.

OLD NEWS ....
I am not always
in step ....
To Wayne
LaPierre,
I read with keen
interest in our
Daily Gazette,
Schenectady, NY
of how you and
evident buddy,
Harry Reid, were
together at a
new NRA shooting
Range in Las
Vegas, Saturday,
March 27, 2010.
Sarah Palin was
spouting to the
Tea Party crowd
a mile away, you
know the folks
who rant about
God, guns and
Freedom. I
assume there was
no time in your
schedule to meet
and greet the
street folks who
will be turning
your buddy to
pasture in
November.
Yes, I am an NRA
Member, a gun
dealer and gun
show promoter. I
also don't drink
beer and I vote!
In the last NY
State and
Congressional
elections it
seems you guys
at the NRA
backed our now
Senator
Gillibrand over
a nice
Conservative
fellow and she
won. Then was
appointed to the
Senate and we
got Obamacare.
You also backed
Scott Murphy of
NY over another
nice
conservative and
we got Obamacare
in the House.
Are you now out
stumping for
Harry Reid so we
can get
Socialism in our
lifetime? It is
just great that
good old Harry
is a hunter or
voted one time
for our cause to
keep our guns.
There is a
bigger picture
here, Wayne.
Guns are good.
But even good
gun guys can go
wrong, as you
guys did. Don't
repeat your
stupid mistakes
and give Sarah a
call.
It is of no use
to have the
right to buy and
sell over the
backyard fence
if you can't
afford to buy
groceries or
ammo and your
grandchildren
can inherit our
collections but
need to sell off
to pay for the
ridiculous
Federal debt we
are in. Get
real, have a cup
of tea, Wayne.
Think beyond the
firing range and
set your NRA
sights on
getting
Conservative Gun
People to our
Nation's Capitol
in November. We
here at our gun
shows or NEACA
Arms Fairs are
shooting in that
direction.

Just received
word that two of
our NEACA long
time Members
have passed away
these last few
days.
Phyllis
Chamberlaine,
age 78, devoted
wife of Jack
Chamberlaine,
passed away at
home on Friday,
November 27.
Jack and Phyllis
ran the
Adirondack
Sports Center in
Johnstown for
years then
passed it to
their son Jeff
and wife Abbie.
He recently
closed it in
favor of another
business.
Phyllis will be
missed by all
who knew her.
Our condolences
to her family
and especially
to her husband
Jack, who, with
Phyllis, just
passed their
50th Wedding
Anniversary on
November 25th.
Wes
Hurd, of
Chestertown lost
his battle with
cancer on
Thanksgiving
Day, November
26. Wes enjoyed
our NEACA Arms
Fairs and
attended other
shows as well.
He will be
missed on the
show circuit by
all who he had
dealings with or
simply
conversations
with; a very
well liked
gentleman. May
each of us be
spoken of so
well. Wes was a
true outdoorsman
from his service
as a NYS Forest
Ranger thru his
NRA Instruction
to his private
garden, he loved
the woods and
.... guns. Join
many others in
that really big
show in Heaven,
Wes. We'll all
see you there,
again.
Cathy and I will
miss them ... as
we do for the
many members and
friends who
passed before.

Michael Jackson
Dead at age 50!
Michael Jackson,
the innovator of the Moon Walk and the
unbelievable style and dance of Thriller
is dead today at age fifty. June
25, 2009 will surely go down as a day of
remembrance and mourning for this
controversial but much talented
performer. Like him or love him,
Jackson was one of a kind in the musical
industry. Born August 28, 1958 in
Gary, Indiana,
he started performing when he was just
four years old and at age eight he
appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show with
the Jackson Five. Winning 8
Grammy's for his Thriller Album in 1982
it went on to sell over 46 million
copies, still a record. He died at
3:15 Pacific Time at UCLA Medical Center
in Los Angeles, California. He was taken
there by ambulance while unconscious
after suffering cardiac arrest at home
but three hours later was pronounced
dead. Like Elvis, Michael will be
remembered by his peers, if not a King,
certainly a Prince of Pop. (We
have some items of Jackson on our
Book Page.)
Sadly Today, Farah Fawcett also
passed away at age 62 from a lingering
cancer that she valiantly fought but
finally succumbed to. She died this
morning in California. Certainly a
day to remember and coming just one day
after Ed McMahon, sidekick to Jonnie
Carson for over thirty years also passed
away in Los Angeles on June, 24th.
Ed was 86.
June 8, 2009...
Our Arms Fair at the Old Mill Restaurant
yesterday went quite well, just under
250 Members, dealers and general public
paid us a visit. The weather was perfect
this bright sunny day so we felt that
the turn-out was pretty good and most
all the exhibitors were happy with
sales. At least they asked when
the next one was scheduled. There
may be some changes coming to the
restaurant very soon so stay tuned in...
Other News, May
27, 2009 ...
Judge Sotomayor, a New York native,
ruled on a Second Circuit Appeals Court
panel that the Second Amendment is
not a fundamental right and does
not apply to the states in the case
of
Maloney v. Cuomo. This
ruling is in direct conflict with
a Ninth Circuit Court ruling in the
Nordyke v. King case in
California, that the Second Amendment IS
incorporated through the due process
clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
So what does it mean, that Obama now
nominated Sotomayor to sit on the U.S.
Supreme Court? It means that any
progress we've been making lately...
WILL BE REVERSED.
While Democrats in Congress have been
making great strides in the gun
rights arena, refusing to consider a
renewal of the Clinton gun ban,
and offering overwhelming bipartisan
support for legislation allowing
citizens to carry firearms in
national parks... President Obama just
demonstrated that
he prefers judges who OPPOSE
Second Amendment rights.
This report is from the Second Amendment
Foundation.

Ok, We Lost Again!
Special Election for Congress, Tuesday,
March 31
Another Murphy Lie ??
Did you just receive a post card in your
mail suggesting that Scott Murphy “is
the only candidate for Congress with an
‘A’ rating from the NRA”? Look
closely and see that
it was not sent
by the National Rifle Association but
rather
was “Paid for by Scott Murphy for
Congress.”
He is right on one point though … the
NRA doesn’t give out “A” ratings …
especially to those
candidates who don’t have a voting
record!
Remember when we had
our last Congressional race for this 20th
District … the one with Sandy Treadwell
running against Kirsten Gillibrand ….
The NRA post card sent out just before
the last election giving Gillibrand an
endorsement went a very long way to push
her to win. We Second Amendment
Rights people, hunters and shooters take
notice when the NRA endorses candidates…
and many of you voted for her.
They did not endorse Treadwell “because
he had no voting record.” Why would
they rate Murphy with an “A” when he has
none either? The simple answer is
… they would not!
Could it be … now that Gillibrand is
supporting Murphy, a fellow democrat …
that she learned a fact about hunters
when the NRA endorsed her with a mailing
just before election day? That
most people don’t read the fine print
and only see … “NRA endorses …. “.
Good try, Kirsten or Scott, but this
time around it won’t work … especially,
as I see it,
as an outright lie!
Remember when my Arms Collectors Journal
ran a headline about a phrase from then
Governor Mario Cuomo, “NRA
Members Drink beer, don’t vote and lie
to their wives”
(see our web version at
http://neaca.com/ACJonLine.htm ), he
found out that he was wrong then and I
surely hope that these liars find out
how wrong they are today.
Jim Tedisco has been
at most all of our Arms Fairs in his
district, most recently when he visited
and spoke at our show in Saratoga
Springs this month. He vowed to
support our gun rights as he always has
in his long and steadfast career as your
Assemblyman and as Minority Leader in
the NYS Assembly. It is certainly
not an easy job being in the minority in
general and especially not as their
Republican leader. But Jim has
persevered and pursued our agenda and he
deserves your vote this Tuesday.
Get out and show your support early!
And
please copy or forward this e-mail
to as many friends and family as you can
… right now … and ask that they do the
same. Time is short, I as a gun
owner, show promoter, Licensed Dealer,
hunter and protector of our Second
Amendment Right to Keep and Own Firearms
ask you to
be faithful to the cause of FREEDOM.
The NRA Members should and do support
James Tedisco for our next Congressman.
Congress now needs all the help he can
bring.
Vote JIM Tuesday!
Sincerely, David
Petronis
President, New
Eastcoast Arms Collectors Associates;
NEACA, Inc.
… and don’t forget our
Utica Gun Show on April 4, 5 at the AUD
… where you can exercise that Second
Amendment Right that Jim Tedisco wants
to protect.

News Flash, Just In ... Obama Takes
Flight !
Obama takes flight in a hot air balloon
looking for solace from Hillary Clinton,
promising to meet her in a remote
mountain cabin but realizes he is lost.
He lowers his altitude and spots a man
fishing from a boat in a lake below.
He shouts to him, “Excuse me, can you
help me? I promised a friend I
would meet her an hour ago, but I don't
know where I am.”
The man consults his portable GPS and
replies, “You're in a hot air balloon,
approximately 30 feet above a ground
elevation of 2346 feet above sea level.
You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes
north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09
minutes west longitude.
He rolls his eyes and says, “You must be
a Republican!”
“I am,” replies the man. “How did you
know?”
“Well,” answers Obama, “Everything you
tell me is technically correct, but I
have no idea what to do with your
information and I'm still lost. Frankly,
you're not much help to me.”
The man smiles and responds, “You must
be a Democrat, right?”
“I surly am,” replies Obama, “how did
you know?"
“Well,” says the man, “You don't know
where you are or where you're going.
You've risen to where you are due to a
large quantity
of hot air. You made a promise
that you have no idea how to keep and
now you expect me to solve your problem.
Being a Democrat, you're in exactly the
same position you were in before we met
but now, somehow, it's all my Republican
fault.”
I'm telling you
... I heard it from a reliable source!

We were at the Syracuse, NY Gun Show this September 15 & 16, 2007 in our same location. Not as good a show as in the spring but we did fine.
We displayed at the Clayton Rotary Gun Show this past August 25 & 26 and managed a good sale. It was a bit light in dealers and public but Cathy and I had a fine time.
We displayed at the Louisville, Kentucky ~ Gun Day Show on June 8, 9, 10, 2007. It was a long trip but not enough public for the amount of dealers there. Some did good others not so good. The show had some great merchandise and we also brought some super items.
We organized the Herkimer Show and also displayed on May 19 & 20, 2007. Bought some good hunting guns and other things but show was a bit light. Did fine though as usual.
We displayed at the Syracuse, NY Gun Show this April 21, 22 weekend. Brought some very fine guns and there was a record crowd but limited sales activity. We did fine though.
We displayed at the Albany, NY Gun Show this past January 2007. Note: Our sales were light but it was an enjoyable meeting.

The Facts About OSHA's Ammunition Proposal
A recent proposal for new “explosives safety” regulations by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has rightly caused a flurry of concern among gun owners and those in the firearm business. OSHA had set out to make legitimate updates to workplace safety regulations pertaining to explosives; unfortunately, the proposed rule goes far beyond regulating true explosives. The proposed rules include restrictions that very few gun stores, sporting goods stores, shippers,
or ammunition dealers could comply with.
The key problem in the proposed rule is that OSHA defines “explosives” to include “black powder, … small arms ammunition, small arms ammunition primers, [and] smokeless propellant.” The proposal defines different classes of “explosives” based on the hazards they present, but then treats ammunition and components the same as the most volatile high explosives, for nearly all purposes.
In fact, industry and military tests have long proved that small arms cartridge pose little hazard in a fire. A classic reference work from the 1940s describes tests in which large quantities of shotgun shells and metallic cartridges were deliberately set on fire. The ammunition generally burned slowly, and cartridges ignited “piece by piece” without throwing fragments more than a few feet. (Julian S. Hatcher, Hatcher’s Notebook 532-33
(2d ed. 1962).)
Because small arms ammunition and components are far less hazardous than high explosives, existing practices for their storage, transportation and sale are very different. But under the proposed rule, a workplace that contains even a handful of small arms cartridges, for any reason, is considered a “facility containing explosives” and therefore subject to many impractical restrictions. Among the many examples:
- No person could carry “firearms, ammunition, or similar articles in facilities containing explosives … except as required for work duties.” This rule would make it impossible to operate any kind of gun store, firing range, or gunsmith shop.
- Employers would have to evacuate all employees when an electrical storm approaches a “facility containing explosives.” This requirement would apply to all “facilities,” from a small country store that stocks a few boxes of hunting ammunition, to the largest mass-merchandise outlet such as Wal-Mart.
- Employers would have to ensure that “no open flames, matches, or spark producing devices are located within 50 feet (15.2 m) of explosives or facilities containing explosives.” Neither small gun stores, nor “big box” retailers have any practical way to enforce this rule; realistically, a person smoking a cigarette outside a large concrete building can’t set fire to ammunition inside the building anyway.
- Vehicles could not be “refueled within 50 feet (15.2 m) of a facility containing “explosives.” Again, many gas stations and convenience stores in rural areas stock small quantities of ammunition; gas pumps outside don’t pose any danger to ammunition in the store.
The proposed rules on storage of small arms ammunition and components would also create problems for retailers.
- The rule would require 25 feet of separation between small arms ammunition and all “flammable liquids, flammable solids, and oxidizing materials.” As an even more impractical alternative, a dealer could construct a one-hour fire barrier wall. Neither should be necessary, given the low level of hazard created by (for instance) a countertop display of gun oil near a supply of rifle or pistol cartridges.
- The rule would also impose stricter limits on storage of smokeless powder than existing National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines require. OSHA has presented no evidence that the existing NFPA standard is insufficient to protect workplace safety.
Finally, transportation provisions in the proposed rule would create similar problems. For example, the rule would require shippers to notify “local fire and police departments” before transferring “explosives” between vehicles, and even to notify these agencies about vehicle breakdowns or collisions. A fender-bender while delivering shotgun shells to a gun store hardly justifies this level of government involvement. These provisions
do not reflect standard practices in the shipping industry, and many carriers would probably refuse to ship ammunition under these rules.
It’s important to remember this is only a proposed rule, so there’s still time for concerned citizens to speak out. The National Rifle Association, National Shooting Sports Foundation, and Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute will all file comments urging a major rewrite of these proposed regulations, based on the severe effect the proposed regulations (if finalized) would have on the availability of ammunition and reloading supplies to safe and responsible shooters.
The public comment period on OSHA’s proposal ends September 10, 2007. To file a comment, or to learn more about the OSHA proposal, go to www.regulations.gov and search for Docket Number OSHA-2007-0032”; you can read OSHA’s proposal and learn how to submit comments electronically, or by fax or mail.

From NRA-ILA : Albany Mayor Introduces Gun Ban Proposal!
Please Contact Mayor Jennings Today!
NRA has recently learned that Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings has introduced a gun control proposal in the Common Council. Although attempts to obtain a copy of the proposal were refused by the mayor's office, we have now learned that the proposal will include the following:
- Require registration of ALL firearms within the city (this includes currently owned handguns and long guns);
- Outlaw private gun sales;
- Require dealers to report all firearm sales to local law enforcement;
- Ban "high caliber" handgun ammunition including 9mm. and .357; and,
- Mandate that gun owners keep firearms locked-up and inaccessible.
The Common Council could vote on the proposal as early as tomorrow!
If you live in Albany please contact Mayor Jennings at (518) 434-5100 and voice your opposition to this proposal. Or as NEACA Members call the Mayor's office to voice your disapproval of this useless legislation.
Also, please call the members of the Common Council and urge them to oppose this proposal and any other proposals that infringe upon the rights of law-abiding gun owners. The Common Council can be reached at (518) 434-5090.

What I just heard ... Breaking News ~ Dems want to destroy California Deer Herds ....
From NRA Report: PROVISION BY SENATORS BOXER AND FEINSTEIN PASSES SENATE ~ WILL EXTERMINATE ALL SANTA ROSA ELK AND MULE DEER
Last month, President George W. Bush signed the "2007 Defense Authorization Act," which included an NRA-supported provision saving hundreds of elk and mule deer on Santa Rosa Island from the court-ordered extermination that was to begin in 2008 and be completed by 2011.
However, this week an amendment by Senators Barbara Boxer (D-Ca.), and Dianne Feinstein (D-Ca.), passed the Senate, and, if accepted by the House, will result in the overturning of current law and assure the extermination hundreds of healthy elk and mule deer on the island, off the coast of California. This action is not about public access or whether these animals should be hunted and by whom.
Siding with environmental extremists, Senators Boxer and Feinstein claim that the Kaibab deer and Roosevelt elk on Santa Rosa Island are destroying natural vegetation and thus, should be indiscriminately exterminated. The provision calls for the deer and elk to be killed en-masse. NRA-ILA opposes the indiscriminate extermination of these animals.
NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox stated, "In a blatant attempt to slaughter these animals - for absolutely no good purpose - Senators Boxer and Feinstein claim to 'correct a terrible mistake.' The only irreversible mistake in this situation is if these elitist politicians are allowed to kill healthy and robust animals for political purposes."
Santa Rosa Roosevelt elk and Kaibab mule deer are unique and invaluable, as they are free from Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) and other ailments that threaten the species on the mainland. Forty miles of Pacific Ocean offer them a sanctuary from disease. The healthy and thriving herds can be used as breeding stock to repopulate in case of disaster on the mainland.
Cox concluded, "This is not about hunting - this is about political pandering and payback."

| What I just heard ... Breaking News ~ Tulsa Show
To and from My Friend Gxxxx,
Here is what happened in Tulsa direct from the guy in Tulsa who shot the
Gun. My friend the knife maker knows him. Looks like it was not as big a
deal as everyone made out. You know how stories are. They get bigger
the more the story is passed from person to person. Charlie.
Hi Charlie, I missed Tulsa but I needed to stay in the shop and make
knives. That's a sure things for me to make money . You never know how Tulsa will treat a man. Looks like you did very well, That's nice to hear. The guy that shot off the .410 was Jim Txxxx. He's a good friend and also a Pro scout for the NBA , was a head coach for a College basket ball team. Great guy and I know you have met him a few times. He bought a .410 side by side and went back to his table with it and loaded it with snap caps he bought from another guy at the show; The snap caps ended up being old military training blanks of some sort. A few
people go hit with the waxed wad and were back at the show the same day. Jim was very embarrassed to say the least. I have heard about 10 different stories so far. What I heard was from Jim himself. He called and talked to my son after he got back home from Tulsa. Tells me that everything is OK and Wanamacher is Ok with the whole thing.
THE FIRST REPORT IS NOT ALWAYS THE RIGHT ONE!!! AS FOLLOWS:
There was another shooting incident this year again. Some idiot dealer brought a 410 shotgun and thought it had snap caps in it. Wrong! It was live shells and he pulled the trigger while showing the gun to someone and it went off full of buckshot. Luckily it was facing down and the charge went into his case. A few bb's came up and hit one guy in the stomach and another guy in the temple of his head. It did not penetrate his skull but moved around the side a bit as it had lost enough velocity. He was down on the ground bleeding pretty well. They carted them both off to the hospital and were released later
after removing the shot. Extremely lucky. The dealer was ejected for life from the show and facing charges last I heard. I hope he had liability insurance. Idiot! If he would have had it facing toward the crowd no telling how many people he would have hit.

US Congressman John E. Sweeney
United States Congressman John Sweeney, Republican, stopped in to say hello to Dave and Cathy Petronis at this past August NEACA Arms Fair at the Saratoga Springs City Center. He is an avid Second Amendment Rights supporter and John deserves the support in this coming November election from all New York State voters and gun owners.
Naturally our grand-kids, Kristen and Megan Bazar of Mechanicville were not going to be left out of the photos. If my girls and your own future family off-spring are going to be able to hunt and have a place to shoot we need to support today's pro-gun candidates and elected officials. John represents the 20th NY Congressional District and you can show your support by calling his office at 518-371-8839 and say "Thank You" for his gun rights stance. And make sure you REGISTER and VOTE this November 7th.
Also showing his support for our shows by showing up and visiting with the exhibitors and NEACA members at our August 4 & 5 Arms Fair was James Tedisco, who represents the 110th NY State Assembly District. As some of you may recall he also visited our show in Schenectady last July. Jim has a pretty important job as the Assembly Minority Leader in the NY State Legislature and we would like to keep him there after he wins re-election this November. A "Thank You" for his gun rights support can be phoned in to 518-455-5811. Cathy and I wish to thank both these men for their
continued support of our own right to Keep and Bear Arms and to Buy and Sell them at our Arms Fairs. If the anti-gun democrat candidates seeking election from the governor on down actually get into power in Albany we may very well see the demise or complete elimination of public Gun Shows in this State. YOU can make a difference by contributing a few dollars to the campaign of your choice and your most important VOTE this November 7th. And if you find you may be away simply fill out an absentee ballot. If any of you need voter assistance you can call your local Republican Committee or in Saratoga County call 518-584-7900 or go to the Saratoga County
GOP website at http://www.gopsaratoga.org/index.asp .
By the way, "Who is John Faso?" you ask. Well, I hope he is going to be your next Republican Governor. Click on Fred Dickers column in the NY Post .... http://www.johnfaso2006.com/updates/031706.html to find out a little about New York politics. It ain't pretty. Dave Petronis

Elevators naturally, are available but the loading and unloading could present a bottleneck if all dealers have to come at the same time. Doesn't usually happen. There are quality and inexpensive motels in the immediate area and restaurants and bar on premises. Plenty of free parking with valet parking to the front door for
$2.00. They hope to build a convention center within two years and our show will move into it. For the early supporters they will have first choice of tables. I have some very good firearms dealers who will support this first show, I need the support of fifty to make a good nucleus of exhibitors. Tables will be $60. for Neaca Members and $70. for non-members. Suggest you all join. Plus, all members get into all our shows FREE. I suggest the public joins too. You have till the end of February to commit to your tables with a one table deposit. No commitment, no show. For advertising I need to make it all happen
by March 1st. Will you help me? David Petronis

| 1-17 ~ Breaking News .... Gun Dealer Scandal
This was sent in by a friend from Canada ...
Richard Ellis (of Rock Island Auctions) and co- defendant Michael Zomber were give prison sentences this week (1-12-06) for defrauding Dr. Joe Murphy of $12,000,000 in phony value sales of antique & collectible guns. Ellis got 10 months, 1/2 of which can be served in a halfway house, as he cooperated with the State's Prosecutor. Zomber got 2 1/2 yrs in the slammer, and is appealing. Partial restitution of 4+ million dollars in antique weapons was recovered by Dr. Murphy from the personal collections of Ellis & Zomber. Both defendants were convicted some months ago
and were waiting the sentencing hearing. The Judge banned them from owning any antique weapons or attending gun shows. She was unhappy that they had been doing more gun deals & attending shows since their convictions. Ellis has been listed as a consultant to SWCA member Pat Hogan, current operator of Rock Island Auctions, during this period. I saw and talked to Zomber at both the Tulsa & Las Vegas shows during this period between conviction & sentencing. Apparently the Judge frowned on that as she said the "defendants showed lack of respect for the law." The gun fraternity has
been watching this situation for some time. Other top dealers were also involved in the sales to Dr. Murphy and have been banned from selling antique arms, I'm told, as part of guilty pleas that did not carry prison time.
Gun Dealer Sentenced for Fraud ...
Michael Zomber got 2 1/2 years for bilking a weapons collector. The judge said he lacked "respect for the law."
By John Shiffman, Inquirer Staff Writer
A once-distinguished antique-firearms dealer who duped a Bucks County millionaire while helping him amass a $30 million gun collection was sentenced to 21/2 years in prison yesterday. The case, which included the sale of a pair of revolvers carried into battle by famed Texas Ranger Samuel Walker, was widely followed in the unregulated antique-firearms industry, where the dealers' crimes became a major scandal.
U.S. District Judge Cynthia M. Rufe said that she hoped the prison sentence for the dealer, Michael Zomber of Franklin, Tenn., would deter others who might try to defraud antiques collectors. "What is seriously missing here is respect for the law," Rufe said. "It's not about money or lack of money; it's about treating each other legally and fairly."
Zomber was convicted of fraud at trial. His accomplice, Richard Ellis, of LeClaire, Iowa, pleaded guilty and cooperated with the government. Rufe sentenced Ellis to 10 months, half of which must be spent in prison; the other half may be spent in a halfway house, she said. Restitution will be calculated later. "The entire industry was poised to find out what happened to Ellis and Zomber," said FBI agent Bob Wittman, who handled the case. "There's an element that's going to be happy that it's a new day, and there's an element that's going to be upset that their antics are going to be
put under the microscope."
The Bucks County businessman who was duped, Joseph A. Murphy of New Hope, said in a related suit that the men defrauded him of $12 million. That suit was settled for $4.7 million worth of antique firearms. Ellis, hired by Murphy as his expert consultant on a commission basis, led Murphy to believe that Zomber was a disinterested dealer. He was not. Zomber wrote letters feigning interest in the pieces Murphy sought, artificially inflating the firearms' values. In turn, authorities said, Ellis paid Zomber more than $1
million in kickbacks.
The largest deal involved two firearms Walker designed with Samuel Colt in 1846 - the world's first Magnum revolvers, .44-caliber handguns that launched Colt from bankruptcy to fame, according to Philip Schreier, a curator at the National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Va. Murphy paid about $2.2 million for the so-called Walker Colts, about twice what authorities said they are worth.
Before Zomber was sentenced yesterday, he asked for leniency, saying that what happened has consumed him to the point that he has not slept for three years without the aid of pills. He also cited his extensive charitable work on behalf of children with cancer. "I am extraordinarily sorry and remorseful that my actions have caused pain," Zomber said. "I am disgraced forever."
Murphy also addressed the court. His voice thundering at times, he said he was angry that Zomber had argued that charitable work and medical stresses were relevant at sentencing. "I'm the laughingstock," Murphy said, explaining that the scandal is the talk of the antique-gun circuit. "I'm the one who had two heart attacks over this, stents put in... . As a victim, I'm pleading with you to sentence him in the most horrible way you can, because he did this without regret. I want punishment." Afterward, Murphy's attorney, Gavin Lenz, said he was satisfied with both
sentences.
Zomber plans to appeal, and Rufe said she is considering whether to allow him to remain free until that appeal is heard.
Rufe chastised both men for continuing to attend gun shows following their convictions. Her sentence forbids the dealers from possessing any firearms, including antiques, for three years after the jail terms.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Goldman said that Ellis deserved a lighter sentence because he cooperated with the investigation and pleaded guilty. Still, Goldman said, he deserved to go to prison.
Ellis wept through much of his statement to the judge: "I'm very sorry for what I did. It was wrong and I regret it. In my business, my good name meant everything. I blew it." Ellis then turned around to face his victim, who sat in the gallery. "Joe, I'm truly sorry," Ellis said. "I really am. "Murphy nodded.

| Sadly, another of our NEACA Members has passed on to a better place, one with no pain and no cares, just happiness and serenity for all time immortal. He awaits his loved ones in Paradise. Charlie Lent will be among those not forgotten from our shows but remembered fondly. His passing last month was relayed to us by his daughter, Colleen.
Dear Mr. Petronis,
Since my father's unexpected passing last month, I've been trying to
contact some of the friends he met through trade shows. He had his associate membership card and your newsletter on file, leading me to you.
I'm not sure if you have a forum to share information with NEACA members. If you do, I'm hoping that you could let them know the daughter of Charles Lent (dba Wild Lucy's) welcomes contact from his friends.
Most sincerely, Colleen Lent
Colleen also shared a story she wrote for the Newspaper she works for in New Hampshire. Not about her and her own Father, but it could be about any of us.
Dear Dave and Cathy,
While reviewing your site, it was noticed you feature submissions from
members. You're welcome to post the newspaper article I wrote about a
father and daughter team who manage an army surplus store. For a link to the story click here.
Again, if your organization is ever in the northern part of New Hampshire
area, please let me know.
Sincerely, Colleen Lent clent@netway.com

Here is another reason why you should only do business on the web with someone who also has a brick and mortar store where you may eventually resolve any problems. Someone is selling My Photographed guns and other items on Yahoo and other auction sites as their own, taking the money and of course, not delivering the goods. So much for auction sites and getting a real good deal! The FBI and BATF have been notified. Also watch out for credit card orders that require fast shipment, you might be holding nothing after the
"sale." See About Us and why shop with us.
|
|
We have started a Silent Auction Page where items will be up for bid on-line and at our store. We will have a two week viewing period and closings at 6pm EST on Wednesdays. Go to our new Silent Auction.
We will be conducting these auctions periodically and will include some of our collectable items that now are on our pages, including firearms. But you have to pre-register to bid. See our Silent Auction page for details. |

Our next Saratoga Springs, NY Arms Fair is March 17, 18, 19, 2006
Many deposits have already been received. It is our best attended event, being in between the Holiday Season and looking forward to Spring; all that "Cabin Fever" simply overtakes us all. But our Arms Fairs are really about just that, collecting guns, knives and militaria. When we started our very first show, the reverse of our flyer stated that our shows are for the collector, author, historian, student of history and professional arms dealer. If you wanted to find new guns it was best to visit your local gun shop. And that the local gun shop should bring
used and collectable guns and old ammo to our show because they had a better chance of being sold there then in the shop. Well, more and more shows were being produced after we began our business and the shows became a place where new dealers without stores tried selling many guns at $10. or $20. over cost. And then almost anything else could be found at these shows too. It seems that most of these fly by nights are out of business and perhaps the shows in general will again be leaner and cleaner with collectables. Ours always have been full of guns and usually we can boast of the most guns displayed per tables sold. BUT, it is getting harder to
do this because many of our good exhibitors have passed away and some have moved away and some have gone out of business. New people are not taking up the business in the numbers that are leaving. I could now fill an entire show with these past dealers! As word reflects of how nice our Saratoga Arms Fair is, however, we still do manage to keep up a wonderful event that continues a twenty two year history of being the best of its kind in the northeast. Ask the dealers. We look forward to seeing you in Saratoga Springs, NY.
We have scheduled our winter show in
Lake George for February 12, 2006
again at the Holiday Inn on Rt. 9.

Herkimer Show ~ November Recap
Our November Herkimer Gun Show is now history. Small, is an understatement for the amount of dealers in attendance. As has been the usual case, I did just fine from my tables and the other dealers also sold and bought merchandise. The public was down even though our advertising remained the same, perhaps a tad more. Still, I like the area and I like the show.
We will do it again in the spring. I always buy a bunch of great stuff and manage to sell a few good items. There was no exception this past weekend. With the small number of exhibitors we anticipated closing early on Sunday, 1pm instead of 3pm; which we tried to do. Our packing began around 12:30, but folks continued to trickle in. By two o’clock I had a beautiful, like new, LC Smith 12 gauge in front of me, also a great Remington 1876 Damascus Double with engraving and a very unusual European Double barrel 12 gauge in new condition and light as a feather. All simultaneously looking for offers and info.
In the meanwhile, I bought a Remington .310 gauge Shotgun like new in the original box, with ammo! Also, a Crossman Trap Model 1100 air-powered shotgun, which I never saw before. But the fellow with the Winchester 1894 .38-55 rifle just wasn’t ready to sell, maybe next time. Finally, just before 3pm as we were just about packed up and ready to load in walked the finest looking "Black Widow" Luger in holster I ever did see. Seems the fellow saw our sign after church, returned after going home and wanted to know if anyone was interested in his trophy. He sure made my day.
There is a moral to all of this. The size of the show doesn’t matter. The number of dealers at the show doesn’t matter, nor do the number of people coming in the door. It only takes one or two deals an entire weekend to justify the time and expense of "doing" a show. And, that means staying until the very end and sometimes even beyond. That means having a positive attitude, enough good merchandise that someone wants to buy and the cash or means to make a purchase if the occasion arises. I enjoy small shows, I like Herkimer. As a promoter, I lost about $50.00 in total on the whole weekend. As a
dealer I made out like a bandit.

The next Saratoga Springs Arms Fair in August 2006 is right on schedule to be another sell-out show of over 240 tables of collectable guns, knives and Militaria. We now moved it back into the first weekend of August next year as was our usual date. Because of work on the floor at the City Center in 2005 we were moved to the last weekend. There are better positioned and more electrical outlets and new tile. Most significant will
be the ability for added phone and new internet service in the future. The expansion plans are still in the future also.
Recently, Cathy and I visited the work area and reflected on the vast expanse of plain cement floor then in view. The last time we saw it similar to that was over twenty years ago when we stopped at the work site and made a deal to run our Gun Shows when all that was visible was the cement slab. No big City Center, no Hotel, just an expanse of cement among piles of dirt and a lone work trailer. And Saratoga itself wasn't as it is today. In fact a few years later a friend and I had the opportunity to buy most of a block
downtown for about $150,000. Another choice of the wrong partner at the right time that went nowhere. Today, several million dollars would be about the price for that same real estate. At least I made the right choice for our Shows!
Visit us on August 4, 5, 6, 2006 in Saratoga during the horse racing season.

Prior News |
Our Schenectady Arms Fair and Sportsman's Expo at the Crosstown Plaza Shopping Center this past end of July weekend is now history. We had not sold as many tables as we would have liked, about 200 of a possible 250. Whatever could have gone wrong did. The owners built a new wall without notifying us, so the floor plan was all wrong and cut down
our space. With that they also neglected to tell us there was no air conditioning, most of the electric outlets did not work and no hot water. Other than it being 90 degrees outside and in, we managed. Why the public didn't show up I haven't a clue. Our advertising should have produced over 3000 people and we got under 1000! With all the bad news most guys, including myself, did pretty well. You figure it out. They even want to come back to another show! Well, we'll talk to the owners and see if they can get all their ducks in the right row. Even Channel 13 News was there to cover the show on SUNDAY. A real help to whoever
wanted to find out about it before it was over. Friday it was NEWS, Sunday it was HISTORY.
|
Our Schenectady Arms Fair and Sportsman's Expo at the Crosstown Plaza Shopping Center is proceeding well. We have not sold as many tables as we would have liked as to this point, however. We should be well over 300 by now but only are approaching 200. Get the lead out, guys and support this new show! People buy and sell in the summer too, this is not a six month job! All usually works out in the end so I don't get my blood pressure up ... I just remember who don't show up. Remember, we are also open Friday evening for early public
viewing. You should have seen our local ads by now or be among the 8000 or so attendees that will get or have gotten our postcard mailing for this show.

Our First summer Antique Arms Fair went quite well this June in Saratoga Springs, NY. We had a different table layout arrangement which everyone liked and had a respectable, but far from normal, crowd on both days. Most exhibitors did very well, including myself. We will listen to the feedback and make our future plans for this type of show. The new Schenectady Arms
Fair and Sportsman's Expo is coming along fine. We have around 150 of the 450 tables already sold but I may have trouble actually acquiring all of the physical tables. No one seems to have enough available in the area. I know I can count on at least 350. Don't wait to apply or you may have to bring your own tables and chairs. New mailing is out this week.
Setting up Saratoga.

| 06/15/2005 Posting ... Martians are Coming .....
Our Saratoga Springs, New York Arms Fair has become so popular that they come from all across the nation to be here. But recently we've found that our door prize coupons have showed us that we have visitors from many other nations also coming to view the fine displays of antique and collector and investment firearms and vintage militaria. But now, the vast network of Scientists who work for us in trying to discover new people to attract have made an astounding discovery. It seems that the planet Mars will be hovering at its closest point to earth in over 60,000 years on the dates of our
Show this August 26, 27 and 28. And whatever inhabitants of the Red Planet are there are obviously wanting to get a better look at our Saratoga Arms Fair and of what all the fuss is about. We believe that we are the first Gun Show Promoters to be attracting such a response from interstellar visitors. NEACA, First in Performance ... Again! Read their report:
The Red Planet is about to be spectacular! This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the Last 5,000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years before it happens again.
The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles of Earth and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide. At a modest 75-power magnification. Obviously this will also afford a fantastic view for any Martians of the great amount of activity around the Saratoga Arms Fair at the City Center in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. Mars will be easy to spot. At the beginning of August it will rise in the east at 10p.m. and reach its azimuth at about 3 a.m.
By the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30a.m. That's pretty convenient to see something that no human being has seen in recorded history.. So, mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see Mars grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month. Finally reaching its' intended assent over Saratoga Springs on the 27th. Dave Petronis, President of NEACA Show Promotions is feverishly trying to figure out how to create some sort of inter planetary ticket booth to take full advantage of
this First in History visit from Martians.
Thank You Scientists and Astronomers Alike. We couldn't do it without you.

| We just received the bad news that Bob Rohrig lost his bout with heart ailments this past Monday. Bob was a member of NEACA and a great supporter of our Saratoga Arms Fairs. His "Wanted Winchesters" sign was a common sight as one walked into the show. Bob resided in down state New York and worked for IBM until retirement. Bob will be missed by his many friends and our Arms Collecting Fraternity.
|
| We managed to update a few pages on the site this past week. I feel much better and am trying to get things caught up. Our Hall China, Jewel Tea collectors page has a lot of new items on it. Everything is about sold from our new consignment page so we could use some real good stuff if you have it. Our show flyers are out there working for our upcoming events. Our Arms Collectors Journal is in process and the past two issues are out there advertising for our shows and shop. The web site is very active with sales but the shop is slow. All in
all, things are alright.
|
| We were unable to update our site on a timely basis these past few weeks as I was getting over a severe case of Bronchitis with a touch of Pneumonia and the results were not very nice. Now an inner ear infection is keeping me a little dizzier than usual. We lost about three weeks of work so a decision was made to combine our next Arms Collectors Journal into a May-June 15 issue to catch up. All of our shows are on schedule as are our mailings. I am getting better and Cathy, as usual, takes good care of things.
|
| We just created a new page for exceptional items that we have received from clients for consignment and sale. It is still in the development stage as we don't do a lot of consignment. We prefer to own our stuff. But at times it does become expensive and a lot of our customers have some great items they wish to turn into something else. Click on link and see.

Herkimer, New York Gun Show
Held on April 9 and 10 , 2005
Michael E. Plisek VFW Post #4915, 131 Mohawk, St.
We return to one of my favorite little shows in the Mohawk town of Herkimer, near Utica. Directions are NYS Thruway I-90, to Exit 30, then Route 5 east to Herkimer, corner of Mohawk St. and Dewey Ave., near Burger King. Only about 50 eight foot tables but a lot of good stuff comes in and it is a good hunting and collecting area. The Remington factory in Illion is only a mile or two up Rt. 5 as well as their museum. The old Utica Savage Arms Company was also near by.

Plattsburgh, NY Gun Show
Held on April 30, May 1 , 2005
Knights of Columbus Bldg., 106 Boynton Ave.
We re-scheduled a return show to Plattsburgh, NY at the Knights of Columbus Building on Boynton Avenue. It is off Exit 38 of the New York Adirondack Northway (Rt. I-87), right at light, and a short distance south. We have room for about 60 eight foot tables and all were full last year. The last show was very successful and we notified the Club that we will return with another show. Flyers are now being sent to members and exhibitors in our January letter.

ANTIQUE ARMS FAIR
Saratoga Springs, New York
Saratoga City Center, 522 Broadway (Rt. 9)
June *17, 18, 19, 2005 (Friday for Members)
We are scheduling this new ANTIQUE ARMS FAIR on Fathers Day week end so not to conflict with other shows. We have had sell-outs of our 250 eight foot tables for our regular Saratoga Arms Fairs for six in a row. This show, however, is to have restrictions to Antique Firearms (that is normally referred to as pre-1898 manufacture), but will allow curios and relics, parts for same and Fine Investment Grade Firearms, also Vintage, Quality Militaria (Pre-1946), and some Adirondack and Antique Sporting Collectables and artwork.
Saratoga is a unique area. One of the ten most decisive battles in world history was fought here on Bemis Heights. The French and Indian Wars were staged throughout the area. Henry Hudson explored to just south of here and the Knickerbockers settled these fertile valleys over three hundred years ago along with great numbers of Continental Patriots. The County is Republican and Conservative today and one of the most affluent and wealthy in New York State. Parts of it look like Kentucky with the large horse farms and the old towns and villages still have the
flavor of 1800's architecture. Open space still survives but new housing is booming. Our taxes are still low because our economy is still growing. This is all nestled around one of the top ten tourist locations in the US, Saratoga Springs. And here is where we host our Arms Fairs. We would like you to join us for our first ANTIQUE ARMS FAIR this June.

| The New Year always brings hope and aspirations for all to do good and be better than before. A happier life, more money, good health, a better figure ... both in stature and morals, in a nutshell, for change! All of us would like to change something. Whether it be in ourselves, our lives or family, or more aspiring to change the world or politics or somewhere in between, I think the new year seems to bring in a new starting point for us all. And it is good. In fact, it is terrific that we can all believe that just by wanting or wishing we can actually
change anything. With our own will we can affect change. And attitude. This year I hope to make a change in figures. My own personal one to get smaller and my bank books' to get bigger. What change is in your mind?
|
| The Christmas Spirit seems alive and well in the Malls and on the internet. This year my daughter did the vast majority of her shopping on the web. Our site was also very active but there were many requests for things we didn't have, not new items out of stock but for collector things and guns. After the Holidays we are going to have to have a page for consignment things, I just can't go out and find all these things the folks want. Perhaps all you NEACA members have stuff you want to price and sell. I'll have to come up with some details. In any
case Cathy and I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.
Merry Christmas to All ... need a click.

We have some new dates for our Fall Saratoga Springs Arms Fair. It is re-scheduled for the week-end of October 21, 22 and 23 in 2005; instead of Nov. 5 & 6 as on our last flyers. There were some unalterable scheduling problems with the City Center that we had to work with. We are also looking at Father's Day week-end in June for a show there. I will know that very soon.
We have returned from Las Vegas; Lost only $12.00. Now ready to get back to work. Income Tax season is coming and Cathy has a few openings for new clients. The sewing season is here and we still do sewing machine repairs. The March Saratoga Springs, NY Arms Fair is coming (Some of you won't be getting tables unless I hear from you soon). And I'm starting to work on my shop display area to enlarge it. God knows I don't have enough room. I really must start to empty some boxes and dust off some long buried guns.
|
| We just got back from the Easton, Md. Gun Show held on Nov. 13 & 14 and will be heading for Las Vegas, Nevada on Nov. 20 & 21. If you want to see anything in particular from our inventory we can bring it along if you let us know well in
advance. |
|
Latest News ...
Cathy and I and our daughter Denise and her family will be on our way for a relaxing trip to Las Vegas for a few days so I may not get to your e-mails so quick. We did buy a laptop for just such occasions but finding the time to use it is now the key. Just got back from a show in Easton, MD where we did pretty good. Saw some old friends, sold some old friends. The crowd was definitely down though. With a few days respite from travel we are off again but will all be home for the Holidays. Our favorite season. If anyone sees anything of
interest on these pages, just send money ... after Vegas I can probably use it.
We will be working on a new Show Report for our just past October Saratoga Springs, NY Arms Fair and will have some new dates for things coming up. I sold three guns at the shop after the show and after the election. I personally think that election jitters kept a few folks from buying what they wanted. With the Presidents' win perhaps the people feel more comfortable spending money and taking a deep breath of relief. With our President waking up each morning with Laura instead of one facing Teresa the Terrible there should be such a sigh of relief the
country would shake. Actually, I think a small part is shaking.

Our October Saratoga Springs Arms Fair is now a part of the continuing and fine history of NEACA Show Promotions. The show was actually sold out several times and continually overcame last minute cancellations and even two "no shows" who none the less were paid. Being held during our Northern Zone hunting season kept the crowd down somewhat but evidently not the overall buying. The show ended up being one with all guns or gun and knife related items plus fine quality antiques and vintage militaria. One that had a good variety for everyone but no unrelated
crap. And one with steady but a bit light on attendance. Over 150 guns were tied as they were brought in for sale or trade by the public, which was not bad. Of the 250 tables available for our next Arms Fair on March 18, 19 & 20, 2005 we have already taken deposits on about 115 and more promised by check in this weeks' mail. If you want tables at this next show, don't wait too long to send in your applications. |

***************************
Our Saratoga Springs Arms Fair on Halloween weekend October 30 & 31, 2004 is now sold out. We already have 242 tables sold. And they are 98% full of guns, collector knives, hunting accessories, antiques and vintage militaria. We are very pleased indeed. Thank you. I have seen the rest of the shows in the northeast and Saratoga Springs really is the best. We are sold out even with 12 table cancellations, 15 various tables that I refused and 21 tables of dealers we normally get who had other family or similar commitments. Our March 2005
show again will conflict with Baltimore but I am sure that we will be sold out within a few weeks of this October Show. Thank you all.
Saratoga Springs, NY Arms Fair
Our 56th Saratoga Springs Arms Fair was this past August 7 and 8 weekend and we were sold out for the fourth show in a row. Over 3000 members and public were expected to attend the two day event but the attendance was not as good as it should have been with the increased advertising that was done. Members of NEACA also get in free and also get entry on Friday evening to view the show plus partake of the free buffet that we provide. See our last show report on our Gun Show Page of the fantastic March show. Our next Saratoga
Springs Arms Fair is on October 29, 30 and 31. And note a change in our 2005 later date of August 26, 27 & 28.
We have updated a lot of our pages and created a new one "Stories & Glory From Dave's World"
We have created a new "Items Wanted" page. Dealers should check this out at least once a week to see if you may have what other people are trying to find. A big variety is on now.

Unfortunately we learned of the very recent passing of one of our stalwart NEACA Members, Richard Haight of Schenectady, NY. Dick was a collector and dealer in military weapons and will be missed at our shows.
Happy Independence Day ... and did you know that only about 37% of the populace in 1776 supported the war? Sound familiar today?
Looks like we will revive our Herkimer, NY Gun Show at the VFW. A date will be out soon, probably in October.
Two weeks ago Cathy and I scouted a few new locations for a revival of our Gun Shows in the Utica, NY area. We have found several good prospects and will keep you abreast of happenings. We also just mailed out our Saratoga Springs, NY August Arms Fair applications and March Show Report.
We just concluded our Plattsburgh, NY Gun Show on the weekend of May 1 & 2, at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Boynton Ave. About fifty, eight foot tables were full of quality dealers and good stuff. I bought my share of goodies. Arnold Wyman ended up in the hospital instead of our show, though; a friend of his didn't show up either so we were four tables empty. Not even a phone call. Now if everyone did that and didn't send in their table money beforehand ... well, you can't run a business like that. But, we had a real great show.

We are losing good people much too fast. I just was told about the sudden passing of long time NEACA Member and fine antique gun dealer, Tom Eiben of Danby, Vermont. He seemed in high spirit and good health at our March Saratoga Arms Fair but was stricken about a week later. Tom will be missed by his many friends and the collecting fraternity.

Cathy and I concluded our show at the Saratoga Springs, NY City Center on March 20 and 21 and it was one of our best. Sold out and a record crowd of buying attendees. By our gun tags on Sunday we had over 100 guns brought into the show. Unfortunately we didn't think to count them on Saturday. We had two doors open in the morning and a continual line at both until around 11:30 then continual for one line till about 3pm. Dealers were quite happy. I know we were, especially being always against Baltimore. Our next show there on August 6, 7 and 8 now has many dealers already deposited and we will be sending out our flyers soon to the
folks who could not make this past show. Don't wait when you get yours.
Cathy and I displayed at the W. Springfield, Mass. Gun Show on March 14 & 15 and also at the Lewiston, Maine Gun Show on March 28 & 29, these two sandwich our own Saratoga Springs, NY Arms Fair on March 21 & 22, which was a great success. We look forward to our next one in August.

Uncle Larry at Saratoga
You are here. You make your mark on lives around you. You are gone. A familiar cycle of life that seems to resound all too often.
Another life has come full circle, one that touched many lives, our own very dearly. One that was unique, one that could never be replaced, one that God loaned for sixty six years to my very dear friend, Larry Higgins.
I will miss you. Your memory will emerge constantly the rest of my days. You, Larry, did not simply leave your mark, you made an indelible brand in lives yours' touched. This day, January 29th, you left us much too early in life, but fond memories will endear us and even in your final sleep you are surely not gone. Farewell, my friend.
An unexpected illness struck down Larry Higgins of Auburn, Maine while enroute to a warmer southern climate. He and wife Lorraine were to combine some business with pleasure in Georgia and Florida for several weeks before returning home to Maine. He will be missed at many Arms Fairs across the country and by his many friends along the way. A memorial service will be held in Maine in the near future.
PS: Cathy and I and our daughter Denise returned recently from a lovely Memorial for Larry held in Auburn, Maine. The turnout for friends to give their final farewell was grand. He would have enjoyed the attention very much. A tribute was also displayed at his own local Gun Show in nearby Lewiston, Maine held on March 27 & 28 the week after our Saratoga Arms Fair, where we also remembered Larry for who he was, one of a kind.

The US Senate Bill to protect gun manufacturers and gun dealers from frivolous law suits (like John Edwards likes) went down with the unusual help of its sponsor and the NRA. After unwanted anti-gun amendments were added the original bill was scrapped! A loss but A WIN.
Looks like too much flack has been thrown by gun owners at their State Representatives to actually see any kind of proposition take root like the one our Governor proposed to jack up permit fees. I wrote:
"In New York State perhaps the gun shops will see a surge in new handgun sales for folks who don't have permits. It seems our Governor Pataki is proposing a new $200.00 fee for handgun permits, limited to a five year renewal and a $25.00 fee for handguns added, this to balance the budget. At least the Democrats won't complain about the tax increase. I think I wouldn't mind seeing our President suggest a Washington Job for our "Gov." Will he fit in with Tax Cutting though?"
